The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, says ban on sale of petrol in Jerry cans is still in force, as the police have impounded two vehicles fitted with a large drum each for use in the illegal sale of petrol.
Inalegwu told newsmen that two suspects had also been arrested in connection with the crime, saying that each of the drums could take up to 250 litres of petrol.
He said that the suspects and the vehicles were apprehended at
a filling station in the Central Business Area by a task force against the illegal sale of petrol and sundry crimes in the FCT.
The task force comprises the police, military and paramilitary personnel. Inalegewu, who is the chairman of the task force, also said that the team had impounded more than 4,000 motorcycles from commercial operators who were found to have operated in the city centre illegally.
He restated that the ban on the sale of petrol in jerry cans within the territory was still in force, and called on Nigerians to maintain orderliness in the territory to reduce crime.
